Kristiina Louhi

Kristiina Louhi (b. 1950) is a writer and illustrator from Järvenpää in Finland. Her books and illustrations have been adored by Finnish children for decades.

Louhi graduated with a degree in Graphic Design in 1975 from the Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture. She’s been publishing the Aino series since 1984 and the Tomppa series since 1993. As well as illustrating her own books, she’s illustrated works by Hannele Huovi, Hannu Mäkelä, Riitta Jalonen, Eppu Nuotio and Leena Laulajainen among others.

Kristiina Louhi was awarded the prestigious Finlandia Junior Prize for her illustrations for Kristiina Jalonen’s The Girl and the Jackdaw Tree (Tyttö ja naakkapuu, Tammi 2004). Books that have been illustrated by Louhi have been translated into over 20 languages. She was awarded the Pro Finlandia Medal in 2014 and the State Prize for Children’s Culture in 1988 and is one of the best-known illustrations in Finland.
