Ukrainian edition of Timo Parvela’s ELLA AND FRIENDS donated to refugee children

Author Timo Parvela and his original publisher Tammi, in cooperation with Timo’s Ukrainian publisher School book, donate ELLA AND FRIENDS books translated into Ukrainian to refugee children in Finland.

“When reality around feels scary, a child needs shelter. Stories offer protection. Every child should have a castle surrounded by fairy tales and stories. It is the job of us adults to help build it”, says author Timo Parvela.

Vasily Fediienko, the publisher of the book’s Ukrainian edition, is moved by Parvela’s gesture. “This very interesting and clever book helps Ukrainan children get to know kids’ lives in Finland. After all, it is important to know and understand your friends, to feel part of a large and benevolent European family. We thank everyone who has made this book and those who provide asylum and care for Ukrainian women and children. We Ukrainians know how to be grateful and appreciate friendship”, Fediienko commented.

School Book in Kharkiv has been publishing the ELLA AND FRIENDS series since 2016. The series has been translated into Ukrainian by Tetjana Vakulenko and illustrated by Natalia Haida. Through the Ukraine centers and libraries, the books will reach children all over Finland. The book is like a warm welcome that introduces the Finnish school world and everyday life in the children’s own language, in a fun way.
