We are delighted to announce the Finlandia Prize for Fiction nomination for Miki Liukkonen and his posthumously published novel, GUEST MODE (Vierastila, WSOY September 2023). Our warmest congratulations to all those involved in the production of this outstanding book, and to Miki’s family.
The prize jury describes the work as follows:
GUEST MODE is a verbal pirouette by a sharp observer. The world of the main character of the work bursts with sensory stimuli, surprising events and randomly appearing characters. The text fluctuates between small details and the entire universe, between the concrete and delusions. The work is a fragmented cornucopia, where externality, the longing for love, the shock of the mind and deep humanity are put into words with masterful brilliance.
GUEST MODE is a dazzling, postmodern masterpiece that showcases the author’s ‘ – , ’ (Helsingin Sanomat). The novel was published to critical acclaim in September, cementing his accession to the literary firmament in Finland.
The winner of the 30,000 euro prize, Finland’s most prestigious literary award celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, will be announced on 29 November.
